MACON, Ga. – The No. 15 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's tennis team capped the regular season with a 4-3 Peach Belt Conference victory over Middle Georgia on Friday, using a doubles point and three singles wins to secure the decision.
North Georgia opened the match by taking the doubles point. Juan Cruz Blanco and Janos Varga earned a 6-4 win at No. 1, while Marcos Castellanos and Franco Rebora followed with a 7-6 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point. The No. 2 doubles match featuring João Luis Silva and Ben Brandl was tied 6-6 when it was abandoned.
In singles play, the Nighthawks picked up three key victories to hold off Middle Georgia. Ben Brandl delivered a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4, and Castellanos added another straight-set victory at No. 2 by the same score.
Rebora provided the clinching point at No. 5, rallying after dropping the first set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and seal the 4-3 team win.
Middle Georgia earned its points at No. 1 and No. 3 singles in straight sets, along with a win at No. 6.
North Georgia will open postseason play at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on April 24 in Columbus, Georgia.
