DAHLONEGA – University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer player
Rafael Kawata has earned his second consecutive Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week honor after scoring the overtime goal that sent the Nighthawks to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals.
After 90 minutes of regulation and a 10-minute first overtime period, the No. 2-seeded Nighthawks remained tied 1-1 with No. 7 seed Georgia Southwestern. More than seven minutes into the second overtime period, Kawata found the back of the net, beating the Hurricanes' diving goalkeeper to secure a 2-1 victory for North Georgia.
The goal was Kawata's seventh of the season. He was also named to the PBC All-Conference first team.
Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega serves as the title sponsor of the Nighthawk of the Week award. Each week's winner receives a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant, located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East. Chick-fil-A is proud to give back to the local community and serve as a community partner with UNG Athletics.
Since the fall of 2014, UNG Athletics has recognized one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. A committee composed of members of the UNG Athletics leadership team selects the recipient each Sunday evening.
The Nighthawks will host No. 3 seed Clayton State on Wednesday in the PBC Tournament semifinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the UNG Soccer Field.
