DAHLONEGA – University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer player Rafael Kawata has been named the Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week after helping guide the Nighthawks to a 2-0 week against Middle Georgia and Rollins.

Kawata played a key role in North Georgia's 2-1 win over Middle Georgia, scoring the opening goal in the 34th minute to put UNG in front. The Nighthawks went on to secure a 2-1 victory on the road over the Knights.

The Taubaté, Brazil native found the back of the net again later in the week, this time on Senior Day. The senior midfielder scored the second goal of the match to help propel the Nighthawks to a 3-0 victory over Rollins in the regular season finale.

Kawata also recorded an assist on the final goal of the game, marking the third instance this season he has had a goal and an assist in the same match.

On the season, Kawata has totaled sixth goals, which is tied for the fifth most in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). He has also tallied four assists to sit in a tie for the second most in the league.

The Nighthawk of the Week title sponsor is Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega, with each week's winner receiving a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant. Located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East, Chick-fil-A is proud to give back to the local community and serve as a community partner with UNG Athletics.

Beginning in the fall of 2014, UNG Athletics has honored one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is selected each Sunday evening by a committee made up of members of the UNG Athletics leadership team.

After a standout conclusion to the regular season, Kawata and the Nighthawks have their focus set on the PBC Tournament. The Nighthawks will host their quarterfinal match on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. at the UNG Soccer Field.
