No. 18 Nighthawks Draw With Clayton State 1-1 to Close Regular Season

DAHLONEGA – The No. 18 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's soccer team wrapped up its 2026 regular season with a 1-1 draw against Clayton State (7-5-3, 4-3-1 PBC) on Saturday afternoon.

Less than 11 minutes into the match, the Nighthawks (11-3-3, 6-2-1) found themselves on the front foot. At the 10:49 mark, UNG made its way into the attacking third to test the Lakers' goalkeeper Rubie Kelley. Nina Lopez and Sarah Woodall fiercely fired off a pair of shots, both of which were saved by Kelley. After the shot from Woodall ricocheted off Kelley's hands, Blanca Cruz found herself in the right place at the right time to clean things up and score her fourth goal of the season.

North Georgia continued to press the defense, ending the first half with nine shots to take a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

The Nighthawks stayed in the driver's seat in the second half until the closing moments of the game. With less than six minutes remaining, the Lakers capitalized on an opportunity with a goal to bring the score level. Despite eight shots from the Nighthawks in the second half, neither team would find the back of the net for the remaining five minutes, as the clock hit zero with the score tied 1-1.

With the regular season in the rear view mirror, the Nighthawks look forward to the PBC Tournament quarterfinals. UNG will host its opening-round matchup on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
