COCHRAN, Ga. – The No. 10 University of North Georgia (UNG) men's basketball team played a strong first half, but a second half offensive surge from Middle Georgia led to a 79-74 Peach Belt Conference loss Wednesday night.
Middle Georgia opened the game with a quick offensive attack, grabbing the lead in the opening minutes. In a half that saw 10 lead changes,
AJ White gave the Nighthawks their first lead of the game with 13:49 remaining in the half, helping set the tone for a strong finish to the period. The Nighthawks went into the break with a 42-35 lead after closing the frame with a 10-0 run.
The Knights opened the second half with an extended run, using perimeter shooting to outscore UNG 26-9 over the first 10 minutes and flip the momentum. The Nighthawks battled back late, trimming the deficit to one point with 3:19 remaining, but were unable to complete the comeback.
White led the Nighthawks with 23 points, adding three rebounds and three assists.
Colin Turner finished with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
With the loss, North Georgia moves to 11-3 overall and 5-3 in the Peach Belt.
Joshua Robertson led Middle Georgia (7-8, 3-5 PBC) with 15 points adding four rebounds.
North Georgia continues its season on the road with a PBC matchup at USC Beaufort on Jan. 17.
