Mitchell, Lukovic Earn PBC Weekly Honors

9/8/2025 4:24:00 PM

DAHLONEGA – Two University of North Georgia (UNG) men's soccer players brought home the first Peach Belt Conference weekly awards of the 2025 season.

Sophomore forward Maxwell Mitchell was named the PBC Player of the Week while senior defender Vukašin Lukovic was named the PBC Defensive Player of the Week.

Monday marks the first time since Sept. 17, 2018 that UNG has earned multiple PBC Players of the Week in men's soccer. It's the first time since Sept. 9, 2008 that the Nighthawks have won the Player and Defensive Player of the Week awards in the same week.

Mitchell came up clutch offensively in both matches this week for UNG.

The second-year Nighthawk scored the game-tying goal in the 85th minute of the season opener on Thursday to help the Nighthawks draw with No. 9 Coker.

Just a few days later, Mitchell broke through a defensive slug fest with a 79th minute goal to lead UNG to a 1-0 road victory over Lincoln Memorial (LMU).

Mitchell was also named the Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week Monday afternoon for his efforts. This is his second career weekly award from the PBC, coming almost exactly one year from his first honor on Sept. 9 of last season.

Lukovic put together a pair of stellar performances on the field this week for the Nighthawks.

On Thursday, Lukovic scored two penalty kicks goals within just three minutes to help tie the Nighthawks at 2-2 with the Cobras. Lukovic's pair of goals already doubled his goal total from last season.

On Sunday, Lukovic anchored a back line that allowed just 11 shots and two shots on goal against an LMU team that was nationally ranked last season. Lukovic's defense helped the Nighthawks shutout the Railsplitters and come away with the road victory.

This is the first time Lukovic has been named the PBC Defensive Player of the Week in his career.

Mitchell, Lukovic and the rest of the squad are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 10 as the team heads to Young Harris, Ga. to face Young Harris. The rivalry matchup is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.
