9/29/2025 4:04:00 PM

DAHLONEGA -- The No. 5 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's soccer team had two players earn weekly awards from the Peach Belt Conference Monday afternoon. Per the announcement from the league office, sophomore forward Blanca Cruz was named the PBC Player of the Week while senior defender Alexa Aronoff earned the PBC Defender of the Week accolade.

Cruz is in the midst of an impressive scoring streak with UNG's two games last week. She has now scored four goals in the last three games which included the game-winning goal in the Nighthawks' 2-1 win at Flagler on Wednesday.

The Snellville, Ga. native then had a brace on the road in UNG's 4-0 win over USC Aiken.

Cruz is tied for the team lead in goals with five after finding the net four times in the last three games. Earlier Monday, Cruz was named the Nighthawk of the Week as well.

Had an assist in UNG's 4-0 win at USC Aiken on Saturday. She also played a total of 152 minutes while anchoring a Nighthawk back line that allowed just one goal and just seven shots in total against the Saints and Pacers. The impressive defensive performance included a clean sheet on the road at USC Aiken on Saturday.

UNG has had two players earn a weekly award from the PBC three different times this season including in back-to-back weeks. Perhaps more impressively, the standout performances have come from six different players with no individual player earning the same award twice yet this year.

Cruz, Aronoff and the Nighthawks return to the field this week with their biggest game of the season. On Wednesday, Oct. 1, UNG faces No. 18 Columbus State who is coming off a 22-1-2 season with a trip to the NCAA Final Four a year ago. The Cougars are 4-3-1 this year as both teams look to remain undefeated in conference play during Wednesday's top-25 showdown. Kick off on Military Appreciation Night takes place at 5 p.m.
