Box Score CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The No. 2 University of North Georgia (UNG) women's tennis team took down Belmont Abbey 6-1 Wednesday in its final match of the 2nd Annual Scenic City College Tennis Spring Break Showcase.

The Nighthawks (9-4, 1-0 Peach Belt) took down the Crusaders (6-10) in their Scenic City Showcase finale despite losing the doubles point early in the match.

Junior Emily Bush earned the point back with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 victory against Alexis Burkhalter in #5 singles to even the contest at 1-1.

From there, UNG got into a quick groove as senior Ashley Moinard finalized a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the #2 singles match.

Just minutes later, freshman Vasilissa Kupriyanova grabbed another win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory of Belmont Abbey's Hanley Riner in #3 singles.

Suddenly the Nighthawks led 3-1 in the match after trailing 1-0 at the start of singles play.

They continued to heat up when ITA women's singles No. 7 Angelina Linnikova kept her unbeaten streak alive with a calm 7-5, 6-2 decision against Frankee Hendricks in #1 singles to clinch the match.

When freshman Linn Goerdes followed with a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 win in the #4 singles match, UNG was quickly just one point away from sweeping the singles competition.

It did just that when freshman Victoria Niox-Chateau took down Elona Simonov in comeback fashion. Niox-Chateau trailed in the match after losing the first set 6-7 (6-8 tiebreaker). She responded with a 7-5 victory in the second set and a 1-0 (10-4 tiebreaker) in the finale.

The Nighthawks will now return home to face their sixth ranked opponent of the season as they welcome No. 16 West Florida to Dahlonega, Ga. for a match on Sunday, March 16 at 11 a.m.
