BEAUFORT, S.C. – The University of North Georgia men's golf team saved one of its best performances of the fall for last, posting a season-low eight-under-par 280 in Tuesday's final round to finish seventh overall at the Fripp Island to Bermuda Invitational.
The Nighthawks' final-round charge vaulted them up the leaderboard to a three-day total of nine-over 873, marking a 24-shot improvement from their opening round and serving as a strong finish to the fall portion of their schedule. No. 2 Lee claimed the team title at 25-under, followed by No. 10 Georgia Southwestern and No. 6 Florida Southern.
Leading the way for North Georgia was
Rhett Smith, who continued his impressive form with a final-round three-under 69, climbing into a tie for fifth place at three-under 213 for the week. Smith carded five birdies on the day, including a pair on the back nine, to secure his second top-five finish of the semester.
Fellow junior
Hunter Smith matched that momentum, firing a two-under 70 highlighted by a bogey-free back nine to finish tied for 40th.
Drew Sutherland also turned in a two-under 70, while
Colby Bennett contributed a steady one-under 71.
Grant Langford rounded out the team scoring with an even-par 72, capping one of the most balanced rounds of the season for the Nighthawks.
North Georgia's fall campaign featured consistent growth highlighted by multiple under-par rounds and three top-10 team finishes. The Nighthawks will return to action in February when they open the spring schedule in preparation for another push toward NCAA postseason play.
