DAHLONEGA – University of North Georgia men's soccer senior midfielder
Rafael Oliveira Pais has been selected as the Chick-fil-A Nighthawk of the Week after helping UNG to a pair of road wins last week.
Pais collected a pair of goals this week for the Nighthawks during a Peach Belt Conference road trip. In a 4-1 win over USC Aiken, Pais' 29th minute goal broke the scoreless tie and put UNG in front 1-0, eventually leading to the win.
Four days later, in the 80th minute against Flagler, Pais' penalty kick goal (his second of the season) propelled the Nighthawks to their first road victory at Flagler since October of 2012.
The PK goal not only marked Pais' second penalty score of the year, but his second game-winner as well. He's now totaled four goals and nine points this season. Both marks currently lead the PBC.
Pais and the Nighthawks look to continue their win streak on Wednesday as they welcome reigning PBC Champion Clayton State to the UNG Soccer Field at Lynn Cottrell Park on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
The Nighthawk of the Week title sponsor is Chick-fil-A of Dahlonega, with each week's winner being treated to a complimentary combo meal at the Dahlonega restaurant. Located at 488 Morrison Moore Parkway East, Chick-fil-A loves to give back to the local area and is proud to be a community partner with UNG Athletics.
Beginning in the fall of 2014, the UNG athletic department began honoring one student-athlete each Monday morning as the Nighthawk of the Week. The award is chosen each Sunday evening by an award selection committee made up of members of the UNG athletics administrative staff.
