DAHLONEGA - Senior Kristen Davis was dealing on Friday, tossing a one-hit shutout to lead the No. 1 University of North Georgia past UNC Pembroke 8-0 in the opening game of the UNG Leadoff Classic on Friday afternoon at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

Davis (4-0) went the distance for North Georgia, giving up one hit, walking two and striking out six Braves.

Gracie Mixson led the way offensively for the Nighthawks, going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Madison Simmons compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Georgia Blair also helped out, going 1-for-2 for North Georgia with a double and a walk.

The Nighthawks took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. North Georgia scored twice, with one run coming across on Simmons' single.

The Nighthawks then tacked on runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored three times. Two of those three runs scored on a two-run single off the bat of Mixson.

North Georgia improves to 8-1 on the season.
The second day of the UNG Leadoff Classic will start tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. when the Nighthawks face Lenoir-Rhyne in the first of four games at "The Hill."
