COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Cayden Charles scored a season high 20 points to lead the seventh-ranked University of North Georgia men's basketball team to an 82-79 Peach Belt Conference road win at Columbus State on Saturday.
Five Nighthawks scored in double figures led by Charles.
Frank Champion and
Greg Billups, Jr. each added 13 points while
AJ White and
Eric Jones contributed with 12 and 11 respectively.
Champion and Jones shared team-high rebounding honors with seven apiece, while Billups, Jr. dished out a team-best four assists.
Jarrett Adderton led Columbus State (8-5, 2-2 Peach Belt) with 15 points.
The game was tied on four occasions, but North Georgia never trailed after opening the game with a dunk from Jones.
The final tie came at 65-65 with 5:24 to go in the game, but North Georgia responded with a 7-0 run capped by three consecutive free throws from White to take control of the game.
The win is the Nighthawks' ninth consecutive victory as North Georgia improves to 6-0 on the road. The victory moved UNG to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
North Georgia returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17 with a conference road trip to Greenwood, S.C. to take on Lander in a battle on the only remaining unbeaten teams in the Peach Belt.
