DAHLONEGA – A dominant effort from the No. 9 University of North Georgia women's tennis team was enough to move the Nighthawks past Mount Olive, taking a 4-0 victory in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Southeast Regional #2 at the UNG Tennis Complex at Yahoola Creek Park.
After taking all three sets in doubles, the Nighthawks moved to singles and took the #2, #3 and #6 flights in straight sets to clinch the fourth point and advance to the next round while holding a one-set lead in each of the three unfinished singles flights.
Viktorie Wojcikova and
Johanna Lippert got the day started off by taking a 6-3 result in the top flight, followed by
Svetlana Teterina and
Angelina Linnikova winning 7-5 in the #2 flight before
Ashley Moinard and
Valentina Ascarrunz closed out doubles in the #3 flight with a 6-4 victory.
Anna Markvartova and Teterina cruised to the first two points in singles for North Georgia, with Markvartova winning 6-0, 6-1 before Teterina secured a 6-1, 6-0 victory to put UNG on the brink of victory. Lippert grabbed it, winning 6-3, 6-1 to close out Mount Olive and put the Nighthawks into the next round.

North Georgia will face the #18 Columbus State on Tuesday (May 2) at 1:00 p.m in the Round of 32 with the winner advancing as one of two teams to represent the Southeast region at the 2023 NCAA Division II Tennis Championships at the USTA National Campus (Collegiate Center) in Orlando, Florida on May 11-16.
