DAHLONEGA – For the ninth straight season, the No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team clinched at least a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship with its 5-0 defeat of Lander at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Nighthawks battled past the Bearcats, controlling the middle innings and scoring in the second, fourth, and fifth innings.
Jolie Lester and
Madison Simmons led the team offensively, earning two hits as Lester added an RBI to her totals.
Aniston Wright and
Mariah Wicker picked up pinch-hit singles, driving in one run apiece.
Sophie Mooney (W, 8-2) picked up the win, throwing five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no runs, and striking out five batters.
The Nighthawks end the regular season with a 48-5 record overall and 24-3 in the PBC, winning 38 games in a row during that span.

The Nighthawks will move onto postseason play setting their sights on the PBC Championship, with North Georgia hosting at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park on Apr. 28-31.
