HARROGATE, Tenn. – A dominant doubleheader sweep for the No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team opened up the week for the Nighthawks. UNG scored 11 runs in both games, defeating Lincoln Memorial 11-0 and 11-1 in the team's final non-conference series of the regular season. North Georgia was all over the base paths during the doubleheader, earning 17 and 18 hits in the two games.
North Georgia 11, LMU 0
The Nighthawks got the scoring started as soon as possible, with
Hannah Forehand driving in
Jolie Lester on a sacrifice fly before
Olivia Sinquefield put UNG up 3-0 with a two-run shot. North Georgia wouldn't score again until the fourth but made that inning count, scoring eight runs to take an 11-0 lead.
Kristen Davis (W, 12-1) threw four and one-third innings, allowing no runs on just one hit and striking out five.
Aniston Wright wrapped up the game in the fifth, getting the final two outs.
Sinquefield was the top contributor at the plate, driving in four runs on two hits, scoring twice in the game. Lester and Forehand both added two RBIs of their own to the cause, with Lester leading the team in hits with three.
Seven Nighthawks finished in the multi-hit club, with six of those recording two hits leaving Lester as the lone Nighthawk with three hits proving to be a catalyst in the leadoff spot.
North Georgia 11, LMU 1
UNG once again jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second game, this time scoring three in the second inning before adding two in the fourth and one in the fifth, breaking the game open in the top of the seventh, plating five runs to make it an 11-1 result.
Lester led the team in hits again, amassing four hits in five at-bats and driving in two runs.
Sophie Mooney led the team in RBIs, driving in three runs on two hits. Forehand and
Gracie Mixson added two RBIs in the game, with Mixson scoring twice herself on two hits.
Tybee Denton (W, 15-0) combined with Mooney to complete the seven innings, with Denton throwing five innings, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out three. Mooney continued to be lights out in relief for Denton, throwing two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three of her eight batters faced.
The Nighthawks move to 46-4 on the season, winning five straight games.
