Men's and Women's Tennis Cruise Past Belmont Abbey

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of North Georgia men's and women's tennis teams defeated Belmont Abbey in their dual meet on Saturday (Mar. 5). The No. 9 women took down the Crusaders 6-1 while the No. 11 men rolled to a 4-0 win.

#9 Women's Tennis
The Nighthawks swept the doubles point with Johanna Lippert and Viktorie Wojcikova earning a 6-1 victory in the #1 doubles flight. Angelina Linnikova and Svetlana Teterina matched with a 6-1 win of their own, while Ashley Moinard and Valentina Ascarrunz grabbed a 6-2 win.

In singles, all five Nighthawk wins came in straight sets, with Ascarrunz highlighting the singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Anna Markvartova fought to a 6-4, 6-4 victory, and Sandra Recuenco earned a 6-1, 6-2 win. Wojcikova and Linnikova also earned points for the Nighthawks in singles with two straight-set victories after securing the doubles point earlier in the afternoon.

#11 Men's Tennis
North Georgia played to clinch, taking two of three in doubles to secure a 1-0 lead early. Joaquin Benoit and Cole Brainard took the first doubles flight, 7-5, before Eliseo Alcalde and Giulio Sassi closed it out with a 7-5 win in the #3 flight.

Benoit continued his momentum into the singles matches, earning a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory to grab another point for UNG. Christopher Cahour followed up with a straight-set victory of his own, securing a 3-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 rout in the #3 singles flight. Daniel Ostap closed out the win, taking a highly contested 7-6, 6-2 victory to close the match.

Next Up
Both squads will head to Alabama for two matches on Saturday (Mar. 11) and Sunday (Mar. 12) against Auburn Montgomery in the Saturday match and Spring Hill in the Sunday match.
