ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The top-ranked University of North Georgia softball team picked up the series sweep over Flagler (12-20, 7-8 PBC), earning the 7-0 victory to secure a third shutout in the three-game Peach Belt Conference series. The Nighthawks took advantage of five errors by Flagler and earned five walks in the game, scoring in all but two innings.
Delaney Heaberlin (W, 10-0) reached the ten-win mark in the game, throwing a seven-inning complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out five. After giving up her third hit of the game in the third inning, Heaberlin retired 13 straight batters without a hit or walk.
Six Nighthawks tallied RBIs in the game, with
Jolie Lester and
Sophie Mooney leading the team in hits with two while driving in one run.
Hannah Forehand and
Olivia Sinquefield drove in one run each at the heart of the order. Forehand and Mooney added a pair of homeruns to their weekend totals, with Forehand adding the final shot in the seventh inning to make it a 7-0 final score.
Mariah Wicker and
Georgia Blair were the other two Nighthawks to record an RBI, with Wicker joining Forehand and Mooney by launching a solo shot to right field in the second inning. Wicker flashed the power and the speed in the game, adding two stolen bases to her homerun.
Next Up
The Nighthawks will face Young Harris (13-22, 5-10 PBC) in a Battle of Blood Mountain series. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 1) with the first game scheduled to begin at noon.
