DAHLONEGA – A back-and-forth series finale favored the No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team as they completed their three-game Peach Belt Conference sweep of Georgia Southwestern (21-8, 6-3 PBC), defeating the Hurricanes 7-6 on Sunday (Mar. 19) at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
The Nighthawks opened up the scoring, with
Hannah Forehand doubling to left center to score
Madi Perry in the bottom of the first. Georgia Southwestern would answer in the next half inning, tying the game at one until a three-run third inning for North Georgia gave UNG a cushion heading into the final three innings.
In the fifth inning, GSW scored four runs, taking their first lead of the game. The Nighthawk bats stepped up in the bottom half, answering with another three-run inning to retake the lead. The Hurricanes added a run in the seventh but needed one more as North Georgia shut the door to take the one-run victory.
Perry finished with two hits in three at-bats, with
Sophie Mooney continuing to add to her successful weekend by joining Perry in the multi-hit club.
Mariah Wicker drew three walks in the game while
Georgia Blair drew two, with
Gracie Mixson picking the right time to record her lone hit of the game, putting North Georgia in front in the fifth with a three-run shot to right field.

The Nighthawks will host Lee (6-20) for a doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 22), with first pitch for the first game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Lee has played one of the nation's toughest schedules so far this season with the top-ranked Nighthawks becoming the fifth ranked opponent to face the Flames this season.
