GULF SHORES, Ala. – A six-run second inning was more than enough to give the No. 5 University of North Georgia softball team an 8-2 victory over Florida Tech (3-3) in its final game at the Gulf Shores Invitational.
Tybee Denton (2-0) earned her second win of the season, finishing with two runs allowed on three hits in 6 and two thirds innings of work.
Jolie Lester led the team in RBIs driving in three runs on two hits, while
Mallory Parker continued a hot start at the plate driving in two runs on three hits in three at-bats, including a solo home run in the fifth for the final run of the game.
Big Innings
2nd:
Mariah Wicker singled to open up the inning, followed by a sacrifice bunt by
Gracie Mixson and another single by
Georgia Blair.
Madi Perry walked to load the bases before a Lester double in the gap brought home all three runners to make it a 4-0 game.
Sophie Mooney singled to center field to score Lester before Parker brought in
Olivia Sinquefield to take a 6-0 lead. Parker put pressure on the defense, allowing Mooney to score before Parker was tagged out at second, making it a 7-0 game.
Next Up
The Nighthawks will host the Captain D's Surf and Turf Classic, where they will play four games in the Classic with two games against Florida Southern (2-0) and two against King. The first game of the Classic will be at noon against King on Saturday (Feb. 11).
