KEARNEY, Neb. – In a quarterfinal battle at the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II Indoor Team Championship between the No. 9 University of North Georgia women's tennis team and No. 8 Central Oklahoma, the Nighthawks came out on top 4-0 to earn their fourth shutout victory this season. North Georgia won the doubles point 2-1, taking the final two lines, before rolling through three straight singles matches to secure the victory.
Angelina Linnikova and
Svetlana Teterina continued to anchor in doubles defeating Yurchenko/Brocks (UCO) 6-3 to get UNG on the board.
Valentina Ascarrunz and
Ashley Moinard pulled out a 6-3 win in the #3 spot. All three doubles matches ended with a 6-3 final score.
Viktorie Wojcikova finished with a straight-set victory, taking the tiebreaker point in a 6-2, 7-5 win. Moinard rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory to give the Nighthawks a 2-0 lead. Wojcikova's point followed to make it 3-0 before
Anna Markvartova earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory taking the tiebreaker in the second set to put North Georgia into the semifinals.
Johanna Lippert and Linnikova were in the process of a comeback attempt after dropping the first set and taking the second set. Both Nighthawks had the lead in the third set before Markvartova's win clinched the victory. Teterina had won the first set at the #6 spot and was leading in the second 4-3.
Next Up
The Nighthawks will face third-seeded Saint Leo (5-0) at noon on Saturday (Feb. 25) for their semifinals match at Nebraska-Kearney's Ernest Grundy Tennis Center. Saint Leo is ranked third in NCAA Division II and is coming off a 4-2 victory over fellow Peach Belt member Flagler.
