LAKELAND, Fla. — AJ White and
Frank Champion put on a show in the No. 10 University of North Georgia's 95-83 victory over 25th-ranked Florida Southern in the final game of the FSC Mocs Thanksgiving Classic. In a shootout from the start, White and Champion brought the firepower for the Nighthawks as both players combined for 62 points.
White finished with 32 points, scoring a career-high by way of a perfect 6-6 night beyond the arc. The sophomore guard made six of the nine three-point field goals for the team, grabbing five rebounds and earning five assists.
Champion finished second on the team with 30, doing his damage from inside the paint, finishing 14-19 from the field while fighting through contact with just three free throw attempts in the game. Champion added six rebounds and six assists, tying for the team lead in rebounds with
Eric Jones.
Jones finished in double-digit scoring, adding 11 points to his six rebounds making an impact on the defensive end with two blocks and two steals.
Case Roach rounded out the double-digit scorers for North Georgia, finishing with ten points and making two three-pointers.
The Nighthawks were locked in a 40-40 tie at the half, with both offenses looking productive early into the game. In the second half, UNG came out on fire, scoring 55 points and building a 12-point lead.
Next up for North Georgia is a home contest versus Toccoa Falls on Wednesday (Nov. 29), with tip-off set for noon at Lynn Cottrell Arena at the UNG Convocation Center. Toccoa Falls holds a 4-4 record to start the season.
