HICKORY, N.C. - After falling down in the top half of the first inning, the No. 18 University of North Georgia softball team settled in and let the offense roll as they knocked off Carson-Newman, 10-4, Thursday afternoon in the opening game of the Southeast Regional.
The Eagles scored a pair in the top of the first, but the momentum began to shift when
Olivia Sinquefield hit a solo homer over the left field wall to cut the lead in half. After tying the game on a bases loaded walk in the second to
Madi Perry, the Nighthawks took their first lead of the game on a two RBI single from Sinquefield to lead, 4-2.
Carson-Newman answered in the third, scoring two more to tie the game up, but again North Georgia answered, using a
Hannah Forehand RBI double, followed by back-to-back RBI singles from
Jaycie Michael and
Gracie Mixson to take a 7-4 lead. UNG tallied three more in the sixth, two coming off a
Madison Simmons RBI single before the final run was pushed across by a Michael RBI single.
