DAHLONEGA - For the eighth straight season, the No. 19 University of North Georgia softball team hoists the Peach Belt Conference regular season title, winning it outright in the first of a doubleheader sweep of Flagler Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1 - UNG 8, FC 2
Flagler was first to the board as the Saints blasted a homer out over the left field wall to take the early 1-0 lead before UNG had a chance to bat. The Nighthawks answered in their first chance at the plate, scoring three in the bottom of the first off a
Hannah Forehand RBI single and a bases loaded walk to take a 3-1 lead.
The Saints hit another solo homer in the second to cut into the lead, but again North Georgia responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring a pair on a
Madison Simmons RBI double to take a 5-2 advantage.
Mallory Parker brought home a pair in the third on a two-run bomb before Simmons homered in the sixth, putting UNG in the 8-2 lead.
Jordan Warzynski got the final three outs as the dogpile commenced as UNG claimed the top seed outright.
GAME 2 - UNG 7, FC 1
Flagler again scored first, plating their lone run on a RBI groundout in the third before UNG's bats came alive. A RBI single from
Olivia Sinquefield in the bottom of the third tied the game, leading to North Georgia blowing it open starting in the fourth.
A
Gracie Mixson double followed by a
Georgia Blair single extended the Nighthawk lead to 3-1 through four complete.
Haley Cummings brought home two in the fifth on a blast to center with Parker plating the final two runs of the game on a bases loaded single.
