AMERICUS, Ga. - The No. 13 University of North Georgia softball team swept a Saturday doubleheader over Georgia Southwestern, winning both games by a single run.
GAME 1 - UNG 4, GSW 3
North Georgia got things started quickly with a two run homer from
Olivia Sinquefield in the first inning to take the early lead.
Mallory Parker then stepped up in the second inning and hit a solo shot to extend the lead further to 3-0.
The Hurricanes answered in the third, tying the game on a RBI double and a RBI single. Neither team could push a run across in regulation, but North Georgia got a solo homer from
Haley Cummings in the eighth to take the lead which UNG would not relinquish.
Kristen Davis (7-2) got the win, tossing all eight innings and fanning three.
GAME 2 - UNG 5, GSW 4
North Georgia again got on the board in the first off a double steal to take a 1-0 lead, but GSW answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch and a sacrifice squeeze to take a 2-1 lead.
The Nighthawks answered in the second on a bases loaded hit by pitch before Cummings homered again in the third to take a 3-2 lead. UNG scored two in the fourth on a
