DAHLONEGA - The No. 16 University of North Georgia softball team completed its fifth straight sweep of a Peach Belt opponent with a pair of wins over Georgia College Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1 - UNG 9, GC 2
Georgia College scored first, hitting a two run homer in the third inning, but North Georgia answered in a massive way, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the frame.
Haley Cummings got the Nighthawks on the board with a RBI single, setting up
Hannah Forehand for a two-run bomb that pushed UNG out in front. The Nighthawks then loaded up the bases, setting up
Madi Perry to draw a walk right before a wild pitch brought home the fifth run of the inning. A
Jolie Lester RBI single and a passed ball gave North Georgia a 7-2 lead before the third inning came to a close.
North Georgia continued in the fourth, using RBI singles from
Jaycie Michael and
Georgia Blair to get to the 9-2 final score.
Tybee Denton (9-2) got the win, going five innings and striking out four along the way.
GAME 2 - UNG 9, GC 1 (5 inn.)
North Georgia opened the game with three straight doubles with
Olivia Sinquefield's and
Madison Simmons's bringing home a pair of runs to give UNG an early 2-0 lead. After a Bobcat error led to the third run of the inning, a
Gracie Mixson RBI groundout and a Perry RBI single pushed the Nighthawk lead out to 5-0.
UNG kept it going into the second inning, using a Forehand RBI single and back-to-back bases loaded walks to take an 8-0 lead, but the Bobcats scratched a run across in the third on a wild pitch to cut into the massive lead. North Georgia ended the game in the fifth with a bases loaded RBI single from
Hannah Forehand to seal the run rule.
Jordan Warzynski (3-1) earned the win, going three innings of relief and allowing just one hit while striking out two.
