GREENWOOD, S.C. - The No. 15 University of North Georgia softball team took down Lander Friday afternoon, 10-7, to open the Peach Belt Conference series.
North Georgia opened up the scoring in the top of the first, scoring on three straight hits. A RBI single from
Haley Cummings got the Nighthawks on the board before RBI doubles from
Hannah Forehand and
Mallory Parker stretched the lead to 4-0. UNG plated three more in the second off a two run bomb from
Olivia Sinquefield and a solo shot from Cummings.
The Nighthawks scored in the third as well on a RBI single by Parker before the Bearcats found the scoreboard, plating five in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 8-5.
Madison Simmons answered the outburst in the top of the fourth with a solo shot to make the score 9-5. After a pair of Lander runs in the fifth, UNG scored the final run of the game in the seventh on a LU error.

Delaney Heaberlin (8-5) earned the win in relief, throwing 4.1 innings and fanning two.
- Eight of the nine Nighthawks in the starting batting order recorded hits with
Jolie Lester, Sinquefield, Cummings and Parker recording multi-hit games.
