GULF SHORES, Ala. - The No. 5 University of North Georgia softball team split another doubleheader Sunday, defeating No. 17 West Florida before falling to No. 7 Valdosta State.
GAME 1 - UNG 4, UWF 1
The Nighthawks got the bad taste of Saturday night's loss out of the mouth right away, plating two in the bottom of the first off a
Jolie Lester RBI single down the line in left. Two innings later, North Georgia doubled its lead off a
Mallory Parker RBI double, followed by heads-up base running by Parker.
The game remained scoreless until the Argos plated a run in the seventh off a double steal to get to the final score.
Tybee Denton (2-0) got the one-hit win, fanning 10 across her seven innings of work.
GAME 2 - VSU 3, UNG 1
The Blazers loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and plated two on a RBI single to take the early 2-0 lead. Four innings later, VSU sent a solo shot over the left field line to take a 3-0 lead.
North Georgia got a run across in the sixth on a
Madison Simmons RBI double, but that was all UNG could muster as the Blazers held off the Nighthawks.
