ROME, Ga. – University of North Georgia men's tennis player
Joaquin Benoit completed his appearance at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup on Friday afternoon. Benoit fell in the quarterfinals to Alexander Leischner of Point Loma.
In the Round of 16, Benoit defeated Dom Spicer of Wayne State in straight sets to set up a match with Leischner. After falling in the first set 6-2, Benoit battled back, taking the second set 6-4. The final set went the way of Leischner 6-3.
The tournament was hosted by Berry College and featured some of the best Division II tennis players in the country. Featuring over 250 student-athletes, the ITA Cup serves as the only individual championship for the Division II and NAIA levels and has a rich history that dates back to 1986 when the event was called the National Small College Championships.
The ITA Cup offers a unique opportunity for many players and teams to face the best-of-the-best from outside their region for the only time outside the NCAA Tournament.
