Dajiah Freeman Named Assistant Athletic Director, Student Services

DAHLONEGA – University of North Georgia Director of Athletics Mary Rob Plunkett has announced the hiring of Daijah Freeman as the new Assistant Athletic Director, Student Services. Freeman comes to Dahlonega after four full time years at Savannah State, where she was most recently the compliance coordinator and SWA.

"I am excited to join the Nighthawk family and continue to build on the department's current success that has already been established," said Freeman. "I want to thank, Athletic Director, Mary Rob Plunkett, and the UNG Athletics family for entrusting me as a part of the leadership team of and welcoming me into the UNG community. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with an amazing staff and to provide support to the student-athletes and department."
 
As the compliance coordinator, Freeman assisted with the Division I to Division II reclassification process. In addition to the day-to-day compliance duties, she served as an academic advisor from October 2017 through February 2019. In the fall of 2020, Freeman was promoted to the position of Student-Athlete Welfare Coordinator where she oversaw the department's life skills, community service, career development and personal development programs. She also served as the SAAC advision for the department.

Freeman served as the SWA for Savannah State in an interim role from the Spring of 2018 through Spring of 2019. She was tagged with the role full time in the Spring of 2021

Through her college tenure, she was heavily involved with the athletics department as an intern. From August of 2014 until 2017, she worked in the athletic department as the assistant to the athletic director and assistant to the assistant athletic director of compliance/game operation.
 
During Freeman's time at SSU she also helped promote athletic events throughout the community as well as on campus, increasing the attendance of games. Freeman was hired as the equipment manager and office assistant in July of 2015.
 
From October 2013 until May 2017, she also served as president and game operations coordinator for the sports management club. She was tasked with organizing, promoting, preparing, staffing and creating halftime shows.
 
During her times as student at Savannah State, she joined several on-campus organizations, including the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi, Inc, National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA), and Women Leaders in College Sports.
 
Freeman joined the NCAA Leadership Academy Workshop during the 2020-21 academic year, furthering her experience and knowledge of athletics' compliance. She is currently a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) and Women Leaders in College Sports.
 
The Flowery Branch, Georgia, native graduated from Savannah State in May 2017 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing.
