DAHLONEGA - The No. 1 University of North Georgia softball team ran into a red hot Auburn Montgomery team and got swept Tuesday at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.
GAME ONE - AUM 3, #1 UNG 0
After four scoreless innings, the Warhawks finally broke the tie with a RBI single from Olivia Aycock. AUM scored twice more in the sixth inning on a Kathryn Fallen pinch hit homer that brought the match to its final score.
Kylee Smith (7-2) was tabbed with the loss, giving up three runs off six hits and three walks. She struck out seven along the way.
GAME TWO - AUM 7, #1 UNG 6 (8 inn.)
AUM plated five runs in the third inning to get the scoring started, using three RBI singles to take a 5-0 lead.
Cheyanne Mosteller got the Nighthawks on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run bomb that trimmed the lead down before the Warhawks got one back in the fifth with a RBI double.
Mosteller got North Georgia back on the board in the sixth with another two-run shot. The Nighthawks tied it up in the bottom of the seventh, using back-to-back-to-back hit by pitches, but AUM got the last run of the game in the eighth with a RBI single.
Tybee Denton (3-2) was given the tough luck loss, going four innings and allowing just one run off four hits and three strikeouts.
NOTES
- The sweep marked the first time since April 12, 2019 that UNG was swept by a single opponent. It is the first three-game losing streak since the beginning of the 2016 season.
- Mosteller went 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored in the twinbill.
