No. 21 Baseball Drops Pair at No. 13 UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The No. 21 University of North Georgia baseball team fell in both halves of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday at UNC Pembroke.

GAME ONE - #13 UNCP 10, #21 UNG 8
North Georgia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a first inning bomb from Andres Perez. After the Braves cut the lead in half in the third on a solo homer, the Nighthawks extended their lead back out to a 5-1 advantage on a UNCP error and another two-run blast from Perez in the fifth inning.

UNC Pembroke tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a pair of homeruns before Nik Levensteins retook the lead for UNG with a solo homer. The Braves tied the game again in the bottom of the frame on their fourth homer of the game, but the Nighthawks took the lead once again in the eighth on a Brave error and a Jake Howard RBI double to make the score 8-6. After UNCP cut the lead to one in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI single, a three-run walkoff homer sealed the win for the Braves in the bottom of the ninth.

GAME TWO - #13 UNCP 9, #21 UNG 4
The Nighthawks again took an early lead, this time scoring three runs in the second off a pair of RBI doubles from Will Hardigree and Jake Arnold as well as a UNCP error. The Braves then scored seven straight runs starting in the sixth on a pair of RBI singles, a two run homer and a sacrifice fly. UNCP also plated two runs in the seventh on a solo homer and a stolen base.

North Georgia pushed a run across in the eighth after loading the bases, but that was all the Nighthawks could get as UNCP got a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to wrap up the scoring.

NOTES
- Hardigree finished the day 4-for-8 at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI. Perez went 4-for-9 with four RBI and two runs scored.

- Bill LeRoy's reached base streak was snapped in the first game of the twinbill at 21 games.
