No. 24 Baseball Sweeps Sunday Twinbill at Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The No. 24 University of North Georgia baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep Sunday at Young Harris in Peach Belt Conference action.

GAME ONE - #24 UNG 11, YHC 8
Young Harris plated the first eight runs of the game, scoring five in the second on a solo homer and a grand slam. The Mountain Lions plated three more in the third off another solo homer and a RBI double to take an 8-0 lead.

North Georgia started to claw back in the fourth off a three-run homer from Nik Levensteins before Andres Perez hit a RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead in half. The Nighthawks tied it up in the sixth off a Jake Arnold RBI single and a three-run blast from Crews Taylor. UNG would take the lead in the ninth on a Brady Eeles two-run homer and a Will Hardigree RBI single.

Eddie Galatas (4-3) was given the win in relief, throwing three innings of one-hit baseball, striking out three along the way.

GAME TWO - #24 UNG 12, YHC 7
North Georgia got out in front in the second half of the doubleheader, scoring four runs in the third off a Tim Conway RBI double, an Eeles RBI single and a Jake Howard single. After a YHC solo homer in the bottom of the third, the Nighthawks plated three more in the fifth on a Bill LeRoy single and a Hardigree single that plated a pair.

The Mountain Lions cut the lead to 7-4 through six complete, scoring on a double in the fifth and a two-run blast in the sixth, but North Georgia answered in the seventh with three runs to stretch their lead back out to 10-4. A Perez solo homer in the eighth and a wild pitch in the ninth gave North Georgia its final runs.

Pierce Williams (2-0) got the win in six innings, fanning seven. Pete Weil earned his second save of the year, getting the last four outs of the game in perfect fashion.

NOTES
- Eeles went 5-for-9 on the day, stretching his season long hitting streak to eight games.

- LeRoy has now reached base in 20 straight games.

NEXT UP
The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow at 1 p.m. as North Georgia looks for the sweep.
