INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The sixth-ranked University of North Georgia women's basketball team has earned the No. 1 seed and is set to host the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball South Regional Championship, announced via the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship selection show Sunday night on NCAA.com.
 
UNG earned its fourth consecutive NCAA appearance after winning the Peach Belt Conference Tournament title, and automatic bid, on Saturday afternoon with a 72-70 win at second-ranked Lander.
 
The 2021 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Southeast Regional Championship will be held March 12-15 inside the UNG Convocation Center in Dahlonega.
 
Joining No. 6 North Georgia (17-1) in the six-team regional is PBC regular season champion and second-ranked Lander (17-1). The Bearcats will be the event's second seed with both teams earning a quarterfinal round bye.

The four remaining teams all come from the Gulf South Conference. No. 7 Valdosta State (17-3) is the third seed after winning the league's regular season title. Union (18-5) earned the GSC's tournament championship berth and automatic bid, and will be the fourth seed. Montevallo (14-6) and Lee (15-7) are the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively.

Due to the health and safety protocols surrounding the pandemic, this season's NCAA championship competitions are at predetermined sites. The event will be a closed admission event with only a limited number of spectators on each member institution's official pass list granted admission into the venue. 

The South Regional winner will advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Elite Eight in Columbus, Ohio, on March 23-26.
