AMERICUS, Ga. - The University of North Georgia baseball team dropped a pair of one-run games Saturday to Georgia Southwestern.
GAME ONE - GSW 4, UNG 3
North Georgia got on the board right off the bat as
Tim Conway hit a solo homer to kickstart the Nighthawks, but the Hurricanes responded in the bottom of the frame with a solo homer of their own to tie the game at 1-1.
UNG retook the lead in the fourth inning, scoring on a RBI groundout and a balk to take a 3-1 lead. GSW didn't answer until the seventh when the 'Canes brought home two on a RBI single up the middle. The home team walked it off in the ninth with a RBI single to take the first half of the doubleheader.
GAME TWO - GSW 6, UNG 5
The Nighthawks again scored in the top half of the first inning as
Bill LeRoy doubled down the left field line to score both
Crews Taylor and
Andres Perez, but again GSW answered in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 2-2 off a fielder's choice and a RBI single.
LeRoy put UNG back in front in the third on a RBI single, but GSW answered immediately in the bottom of the third with a RBI single of their own to tie the game at 3-3.
Will Hardigree put the Nighthawks ahead again in the fourth with a RBI single, but in the bottom of the fourth a 'Cane RBI single knotted the game up again.
LeRoy earned his third RBI single of the game in the fifth, pushing UNG back out in front, 5-4, but the Hurricanes scored on a solo homer in the bottom of the frame before taking the lead for good in the eighth on another solo homer.
NOTES

Nik Levensteins went 5-for-8 while LeRoy and Conway finished 4-for-7 at the plate to lead UNG.
- North Georgia pitchers combined for 19 strikeouts in the two games, but also issued 14 walks.
