No. 1 Softball Sweeps Augusta in PBC Home Opener

DAHLONEGA - Three long balls and a no-hitter highlighted the day as the top-ranked University of North Georgia softball team swept Augusta in Peach Belt Conference action Monday afternoon.

GAME ONE - #1 UNG 4, AU 0
The Nighthawks pushed a run across in the first inning as Margaret Simmons hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring Kaylyn Anthony to give UNG the 1-0 lead. It took until the fourth inning for North Georgia to score again as Shelby Hammontree hit a solo homer to double the Nighthawk lead.

The scoring came to a close on a two-run homer from Olivia Sinquefield in the fifth inning that scored Cheyanne Mosteller, pushing the game to the final 4-0 score line.

Kylee Smith (5-0) threw a no-hitter, fanning a career high 18 batters along the way. She allowed just one walk and a runner reached via error.

GAME TWO - #1 UNG 1, AU 0
A pitcher's duel between Laken Chambers and AU's Chloe Wilson commenced with North Georgia scratching a run across on a Simmons solo homer on the first pitch she saw in the fourth inning.

Both teams got runners to second base or further on a pair of occasions, but the opposing pitcher worked out of the jam, keeping the game with just a single run scored.

Chambers (6-0) gave up just three hits, striking out three, while Smith earned her first save of the year, sitting down two Jaguars via strikes.
