No. 21 Baseball Sweeps Saturday Twinbill Against Lander

DAHLONEGA - The No. 21 University of North Georgia baseball team took the Peach Belt series against Lander Saturday with a doubleheader sweep at Bob Stein Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

GAME ONE - #21 UNG 9, LU 1
After three scoreless innings to start the day, North Georgia opened the scoring in a big way in the fourth, starting with a Brady Eeles RBI triple. Nik Levensteins stepped up to bat next and brought home Eeles on a double, followed by a Will Hardigree single to make the score 3-0. Crews Taylor capped off the inning with a two RBI double.

The Nighthawks scored on a sacrifice fly by Bill LeRoy in the fifth and a Hardigree homer and a passed ball in the sixth before Lander scratched the scoreboard in the seventh. UNG finished the scoring in the seventh, pushing across a run on a double play.

Cade Heil (5-0) took the win, going a complete game that saw him allow just a walk in the first 6.1 innings. He finished with just one unearned run given up off two hits while fanning six.

GAME TWO - #21 UNG 12, LU 3
North Georgia again started the scoring with a big number as they put up four in the first off an Andres Perez RBI double, a LeRoy RBI triple and an Eeles RBI groundout. Lander answered with a solo homer in the second, but the Nighthawks got the run back in the bottom of the inning on a Perez sac fly.

After a Levensteins bomb over the right field wall in the third, the Bearcats got back-to-back solo homers in the fourth to trim the lead to 6-3. That would be the last time Lander would score as the Nighthawks started the final six runs unanswered in the fifth with a Levensteins RBI single.

North Georgia scored the rest of the runs in the sixth, plating five in the frame starting with a Taylor solo homer and pushing across four more unearned runs after that.

Maddex Richardson (1-2) earned the win, going five inning and allowing just the three runs off four hits. Eddie Galatas finished the game with just one hit and one walk allowed and four strikeouts.

NOTES
- With hits in both games, Taylor extended his hitting streak to eight games, the longest currently active streak on the team. Perez is now on a seven game hitting streak, while Levensteins sits at five games.

- Heil's complete game was the seventh of his career.
