DAHLONEGA - No. 12 Valdosta State used a 14-0 start to grab momentum as they held off Lee late to advance in the NCAA Division II South Regional with a 74-64 win Friday night in the opening round inside the UNG Convocation Center.
The Blazers led 20-4 after one quarter, but the Lady Flames fought back to cut the lead to three early in the second half behind a 10-2 run. VSU responded to push the lead back to nine and went on to win.
Jirah Ards led Valdosta State with 23 points, while Haley Schubert put up 22 points for Lee.
Valdosta State will go on to face No. 5 Lander Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the regional semifinals.
