No. 2 Softball Sweeps Southern Wesleyan

DAHLONEGA - Margaret Simmons led the No. 2 University of North Georgia softball team at the plate Saturday afternoon as the Nighthawks swept Southern Wesleyan at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium at Lynn Cottrell Park.

GAME ONE - UNG 11, SWU 2 (5 inn.)
The Warriors were the first on the board as Emma Collins hit a two-run homer in the second inning. North Georgia answered back to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame on a Shelby Hammontree solo bomb to left center.

The Nighthawks blew the game open in the third, scoring on a Warrior error, a Mallory Parker two RBI single and a Cheyanne Mosteller two RBI triple to take a 6-2 lead. After a sacrifice fly by Madison Simmons in the fourth, the Nighthawks ended the game in the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Kate Ashmore, an Olivia Sinquefield RBI triple and a walkoff two-run blast by Margaret Simmons.

Tybee Denton (3-0) earned the win with a complete game effort, giving up just the two runs off two hits while striking out eight.

GAME TWO - UNG 4, SWU 0
North Georgia got on the board in the bottom of the first when Margaret Simmons hit a three-run homer to left field. The only other run for North Georgia came off a Mariah Wicker sacrifice fly to left field that plated Parker.

From there, Laken Chambers (4-0) took care of business in the circle, fanning nine Warriors across six innings while allowing just three hits.

NOTES
- Margaret Simmons went 5-for-8 with five RBI and three runs scored in the twinbill.

- North Georgia improves to 12-0 on the year, the best start since a 23-0 start to the 2018 season where the Nighthawks finished 62-4.
