DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia women's soccer team tied Wednesday's match up at 2-2 late, but in the end it was No. 10 Columbus State who scored a golden goal in the second overtime period to clinch a 3-2 win over the Nighthawks.
North Georgia got on the board first as
Megan Dumond scored with 27.1 seconds left in the first half, but the Cougars quickly answered, using a Maddy Peterson goal with 0.1 seconds left in the half to get to the 1-1 halftime score.
Columbus State took their first lead of the evening as Anna Grady scored in the 56th minute. The Cougars held onto the 2-1 lead until the 88th minute when
Cat Watry took a cross from
Skylar Abbott to find the equalizer. CSU scored off a corner kick in the 104th minute to clinch the match.
NOTES
- The Nighthawks outshot Columbus State, 15-8, and 6-4 on goal.
- This was just the second time in the 26-match history that the game went to overtime. The only other time was in 2012, a scoreless draw in Dahlonega.
