PREVIEW: Tennis Opens PBC Play On the Road at Augusta, Georgia College

DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia tennis teams hits the road again this week with two Peach Belt Conference matches, starting at Augusta on Monday before headed to Georgia College on Wednesday.

Rankings: North Georgia's women held tight at No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the region. Vaishali Jorge leads the way in singles, starting the year at No. 49 nationally and No. 9 regionally. Adrienne Bofinger also starts the season ranked in the southeast, coming in at No. 20. Jorge and Anna Marie Moller are the No. 8 doubles duo in the region. The Nighthawk men fell six spots to No. 24 in the nation and remained No. 5 in the Southeast Region. Paul Pahun and Ryan Gaskin are ranked Nos. 9 and 11, respectively, in the region as singles competitors, while Kevin Candido and Zach Waldow are the No. 8 doubles pair in the southeast.

Last Time Out: The Nighthawk women won their only match of the week at Belmont Abbey, 6-1. North Georgia's men also went 1-0 on the week, defeating the Crusaders, 6-1.

Scouting Augusta: Augusta's men come into Monday's match at 3-6 overall and will also open PBC action against the Nighthawks. The Jags have lost two straight and five of the last six. The only win for AU came against Lincoln Memorial, a 5-2 win for the home team. The Jaguars lead UNG in the all-time series, 10-4, but the Nighthawks are on a three-match winning streak and have won four of five against AU. Last season, North Georgia shut out the Jaguars. Augusta's women sit at 6-4 on the year and had their six game winning streak snapped with back-to-back losses headed into Monday's match. The Jaguars will also open Peach Belt play Monday after losses to Emmanuel and Anderson, both by 4-3 decisions. AU leads the all-time series, 9-4, but UNG has won each of the last four matches decisively. The Nighthawks have dropped just one point in each of the last three matchups with the Jaguars.

Scouting Georgia College: Georgia College's men are ranked No. 7 in the southeast region and are 1-3 at the early point in the season and 0-1 in league play. GC will take on Concord on Tuesday prior to Wednesday's match. The Bobcats already have a loss to Lander on the schedule, falling 7-0. Matt Rogel is the No. 14 singles player in the region. Georgia College holds a 13-3 advantage with all three of UNG's wins coming in the last four meetings. Georgia College's women are ranked No. 8 in the region and are 0-5 to start 2020, including a 5-2 loss to Lander to kick off Peach Belt Conference play. The Bobcats will take on Concord on Tuesday prior to the North Georgia match on Wednesday in Milledgeville. Georgia College is 14-2 against UNG, but the Nighthawks have won the last two matchups after losing three straight decisions, 5-4.
