WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The No. 12 University of North Georgia softball team finished off its swing through Florida with a doubleheader sweep of Palm Beach Atlantic Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE - UNG 11, PBA 3 (5 inn.)
North Georgia started off fast with a six-run second, kickstarted by a
Shelby Hammontree solo homer. After a
Jenna Goodrich single, coupled with a Sailfish error, scored two more, back-to-back RBI doubles by
Kaylyn Anthony and
Mariah Wicker made the score 5-0.
Kaylee Womack brought home the inning's final run with a RBI single.
The Nighthawks added another pair in the third, scoring on a PBA error and another Anthony RBI hit, this time a single. After the Sailfish scored three in the bottom of the third, UNG answered in the fourth with a Goodrich RBI double and a Wicker RBI single, taking the game to its final score.
GAME TWO - UNG 2, PBA 0
Kylee Smith threw another one-hitter, fanning 10 Sailfish along the way as North Georgia needed just the runs scored in the second inning off an Anthony RBI single that scored both runs.
From there, the Nighthawks shut down PBA, allowing them on base in just the fourth inning, on the way to the sweep.
NOTES
- Wicker finished the day 5-for-8 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
