PREVIEW: Tennis Hits the Road for Two Matches This Weekend

DAHLONEGA - The University of North Georgia tennis teams finally get back to action after having numerous matches postponed and/or canceled over the past two weeks due to weather.

Rankings: North Georgia's women held tight at No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the region. Vaishali Jorge leads the way in singles, starting the year at No. 49 nationally and No. 9 regionally. Adrienne Bofinger also starts the season ranked in the southeast, coming in at No. 20. Jorge and Anna Marie Moller are the No. 8 doubles duo in the region. The Nighthawk men fell six spots to No. 24 in the nation and remained No. 5 in the Southeast Region. Paul Pahun and Ryan Gaskin are ranked Nos. 9 and 11, respectively, in the region as singles competitors, while Kevin Candido and Zach Waldow are the No. 8 doubles pair in the southeast.

Last Time Out: The Nighthawk women defeated No. 22 Queens, 4-3, after Adrienne Bofinger won the final match to clinch the win in three sets. The men lost to No. 23 Queens, 5-2.

Scouting Lenoir-Rhyne: Lenoir-Rhyne's men are 2-0 on the year with wins over Lees-McRae and Belmont Abbey, dropping just one match in the two matches combined. The Bears don't have any rankings at this point of the season, but every one of their players in unbeaten in doubles play and all but one is undefeated in singles play, winning their matches in straight sets. North Georgia is 3-1 against L-R all-time on the men's side, winning each of the last three, including a 7-0 win last season. This will be the third meeting all-time in Hickory, North Carolina with the two teams splitting the previous two matchups. Lenoir-Rhyne's women are 4-1 this season with their four wins coming in the fall portion of the season. The Bears defeated Young Harris, Charleston, Lees-McRae and Johnson C. Smith before falling 4-3 to Lander to kick off the spring portion of the schedule. The Nighthawk women are a perfect 4-0 against L-R all-time, winning last season's matchup, 5-2. UNG has outscored the Bears in Hickory, 16-2, including a 9-0 win back in 2017.

Scouting Catawba: Catawba's men are 1-2 on the year headed into a Saturday afternoon matchup with Mount Olive in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Piedmont Indoor Courts. The Indians defeated Shaw their last time out, 6-1, after losses at Lees-McRae and Limestone to kick off the 2020 schedule. On the men's side, UNG and Catawba will meet for the first time in program history Sunday morning. Catawba's women are 2-2 in the 2019-20 season, falling in both matches in the fall semester before winning both this spring. The Indians have defeated Limestone and Shaw while falling at Mount Olive and versus Newberry at Johnson C. Smith. Catawba will battle Mount olive Saturday afternoon before hosting UNG. This will also be the first meeting for the Nighthawks and Indians on the women's side.
