DAHLONEGA - Jack Newhouse scored in the 30th minute, but Lincoln Memorial equalized midway through the second half as the University of North Georgia men's soccer team ended their season opener Friday night with a 1-1 draw at the UNG Soccer Complex.
Newhouse took the ball in the middle of the field near the top of the box and shot toward the far post, sneaking it past the Railsplitter keeper to take a 1-0 lead through 30 minutes of action.
LMU fought back, scoring their lone goal in the 64th minute as Ueslei Silva found a goal from nearly the same position as Newhouse's goal to level the match, 1-1. Both teams would have opportunities to find a game winner in regulation and in both overtime periods, but the two keepers made big saves to keep their teams in the match and force the draw.
NOTES
-
Conner Domaleski finished the night with seven saves.
- The draw is the first in a season opener for UNG since 2015 when they drew Barry, 3-3, on the road. It's the first draw in a home opener since 2009, a 3-3 tie against Southern Wesleyan.
