PEMBROKE, N.C. - An eight run sixth was all that UNC Pembroke needed as they outscored the No. 8 University of North Georgia baseball team Sunday morning, 18-6.
Crews Taylor led off the game with a solo shot in the top of the first, but the Braves tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning, pushing a run across to knot the game up, 1-1. UNCP then added two more in the bottom of the second to put them up, 3-1.
Taylor came through again in the fifth, doubling to left center with the bases loaded and bringing them all home to put UNG up, 4-3. The Braves retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run bomb before putting up eight runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 13-4.
Trailing 15-4 in the eighth, the Nighthawks used a RBI single from
Nick Clarno and a
Brady Eeles sacrifice fly to cut the lead back to nine, but UNCP scored the final three runs of the game.
