DAHLONEGA - Despite striking first, the No. 13 University of North Georgia baseball team fell to No. 6 Tampa, 6-3, Thursday night at Bob Stein Stadium.
The Nighthawks got on the board first, using back-to-back leadoff singles, a sacrifice bunt and a Josh Profit sacrifice fly to score
Crews Taylor and put UNG up, 1-0. Tampa answered in the next half inning, scoring three runs, highlighted by two solo homers.
North Georgia answered in the second inning on a RBI groundout that plated
Brady Eeles and cut the lead to one. Neither team was able to find the scoreboard until Tampa put up another three-spot in the seventh on two RBI singles to make the score 6-2. UNG got a
Bill LeRoy RBI single in the eighth and put two on in the ninth, but Tampa closed the door to get the first win of the series.
