DAHLONEGA - Despite coming back to tie the game in the eighth, the No. 9 University of North Georgia baseball team couldn't find the go-ahead run as Francis Marion salvaged a win out of the PBC series with a 7-4 win in 11 innings Sunday.
FMU struck first as Leniel Gonzalez homered in the second to put the Patriots on top, 1-0. UNG leveled the score with a run in the bottom of the third on a Josh Profit RBI groundout that scored
Crews Taylor.
Gonzalez put Francis Marion back on top in the fourth with a two-run shot before Tanner Wakefield tacked on the third run of the frame with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-1.
North Georgia pulled a run back in the fifth on another Profit RBI groundout and then tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run eighth. Sophomore third baseman
Nick Clarno homered, and then
Crews Taylor evened the score with a two-out RBI single.
The Patriots scored three times in the 11th, taking the lead on an Alex Griffith RBI single with the bases loaded and then pushing one more across to seal the win.
NOTES
- Taylor,
Brady Eeles and
William Mapes each had two hits in the game. Taylor scored twice and drew three walks as well.
- The two teams left a combined 25 runners on base.
- The Nighthawks are now 23-9 and 12-6 in league play.
