DAHLONEGA - The No. 9 University of North Georgia baseball team earned two wins over Francis Marion Saturday to clinch the conference series win with a doubleheader sweep.
GAME 1 - UNG 6, FMU 2
With the game tied, 2-2, North Georgia's offense exploded in the eighth inning to get the cushion needed. After loading the bases and bringing one home on a walk,
Jake Arnold came through with a double to score two Nighthawks and extend the lead to 5-2.
William Mapes brought home the game's final run on a sacrifice fly later in the inning to get to the final score.
Steven Bower (5-2) went eight innings to earn the win, striking out five along the way.
GAME 2 - UNG 9, FMU 5
Trailing 1-0 after a half inning, Josh Profit got the UNG scoring started with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1. In the second, the Nighthawks took the lead for good with RBI singles from Arnold and
Chase Sudduth to push the lead to three.
North Georgia would score single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles from
Tyler Courtney and
Bill LeRoy before a
Conner Corbitt homer in the fifth. FMU tried to mount comebacks in the sixth and eighth innings, but UNG responded in each inning to keep the cushion.
Derrick Pickvet (5-1) earned the win in 7.1 innings of work, striking out two.
NOTES
- LeRoy led the Nighthawks at the plate, going 5-for-7 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI.

Crews Taylor drew four walks in the second game of the doubleheader, one shy of the program record for walks in a single game.
