DAHLONEGA - Katie Collins' bat was the spark for the No. 7 University of North Georgia softball team Saturday as the Nighthawks won both games of the first day of the UNG Campus Connection Classic Saturday.
GAME 1 - UNG 1, PBA 0
Collins brought home the game's only run on a fourth-inning RBI double off the center field wall to plate
Hobby Gregory.
That was all
Kylee Smith (9-0) needed as she scattered three hits across her complete game, striking out nine along the way.
GAME 2 - UNG 11, CAT 0 (6 inn.)
Collins again got the scoring started, this time sparking a six-run third inning. Collins singled with the bases loaded to score
Olivia Sinquefield.
Kaylee Womack then stepped to the plate and doubled to plate two more runs, pushing the lead to 3-0.
After
Marley Stowers cleared the bases with a two-RBI single to make it 5-0,
Lexi Duncan rounded out the inning with a RBI single of her own.
UNG got another run in the fifth on a
Harlee Williams RBI single and then put the game away in the sixth with four runs, highlighted by a
Cheyanne Mosteller triple that scored two Nighthawks.
Laken Chambers (5-1) gave up just two hits and a walk in five innings of work to earn the win.
NOTES
- Collins finished the day 2-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored.
- Catawba defeated Palm Beach Atlantic, 7-6, in the final game of the day.
