JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The No. 13 University of North Georgia women's tennis team had to dig deep in Jefferson City Saturday, but ended up winning, 6-1, over Carson-Newman.
Doubles went in the Nighthawks' favor, but a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles from
Holly Bennett and
Vaishali Jorge was needed to secure the doubles point, while
Lexa Loden and
Cibeles Zuddy were forced into tiebreak before finally winning, 7-6.
Singles proved to be just as difficult for the Nighthawks as three of the six matches went the distance. Jorge clinched the match with a 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 win, while Bennett also won in the third set at No. 3 singles.
UNG now moves to 6-1 on the season and are riding a three-game winning streak heading into Wednesday, where they will face regionally-ranked Georgia College in their second PBC match of the season. The match is at the UNG Tennis Complex and will begin at 1 p.m.
