No. 3 Softball Sweeps PBC Opening Doubleheader

PEMBROKE, N.C. - Offense was the driving force for the No. 3 University of North Georgia softball team as they eased past UNC Pembroke in both halves of the Peach Belt doubleheader Thursday evening.

GAME 1 - UNG 8, UNCP 4
North Georgia got started in the second inning when Shelby Hammontree blasted a two-run shot to left field to put the Nighthawks up early. In the third, Kaylee Womack doubled the UNG lead with one swing of the bat, hitting a two-run bomb of her own to left field and making the score 4-0.

UNG scored again in the sixth on a Marley Stowers two-run inside the park homer and added a third run in the frame on a Kali Turner RBI single to increase the lead to 7-0.

The Braves answered with four runs in the sixth inning, three of which were unearned, but the Nighthawks scored the last run of the game in the seventh on a Stowers single coupled with a UNCP error.

GAME 2 - UNG 10, UNCP 0 (6 inn.)
The Nighthawks got on the board quickly in the nightcap, using a Katie Collins two-run bomb to take the early 2-0 lead. In the third, UNG added three more, highlighted by a Harlee Williams two-RBI double that made the score 5-0.

North Georgia added two unearned runs in the fourth before using two RBI singles and a RBI groundout in the sixth to score the final three runs of the game.
